Chapter 61 - Greek Bronze Age Marriage

Create:2025.10.30, Update:2025.10.30

1 Introduction

I examined the kinship relationships of marriages appearing in Greek Bronze Age traditions.

A survey of 335 marriages where both the bride's and groom's ancestors could be traced yielded the following results:

2nd-degree relative: 12 couples

3rd-degree relative: 25 couples

4th-degree relative: 43 couples

5th-degree relative: 20 couples

6th-degree relative: 26 couples

7th-degree relative: 17 couples

8th-degree relative: 11 couples

9th-degree relative: 8 couples

10th-degree relative: 4 couples

11th-degree relative: 10 couples

12th-degree relative: 3 couples

13th-degree relative: 3 couples

14th-degree relative: 3 couples

15th-degree relative: 2 couples

16th or higher-degree relative: 148 couples

Marriages within the eighth degree of kinship accounted for 45 percent.

Even marriages beyond the eighth degree may fall within the eighth degree if they involve marriages not appearing in the traditions.
